Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Inception for both technical and non-technical users.

General Questions

What is Inception?

Inception is a blockchain network that uses proof-of-stake consensus to enable smart contracts and decentralized applications. It's compatible with Ethereum tools and uses INCP as its native token.

How much does it cost to use Inception?

Transaction fees (called "gas") are paid in INCP tokens. Simple transfers typically cost a fraction of 1 INCP. Complex smart contract interactions cost more, depending on computational complexity. Fees are burned (EIP-1559), creating deflationary pressure.

How fast are transactions?

  • Confirmation: ~12-24 seconds (1-2 blocks)
  • Finality: ~12.8 minutes for economic finality
  • Most users will see their transactions confirmed within 12-24 seconds

Is Inception environmentally friendly?

Yes. Inception uses proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus, which is ~99.95% more energy-efficient than proof-of-work blockchains like Bitcoin. Validators run on standard computer hardware with minimal electricity consumption.

Can I use my existing wallet?

Yes! Inception is compatible with Ethereum wallets like MetaMask, WalletConnect, Coinbase Wallet, and hardware wallets (Ledger, Trezor). Just add Inception as a custom network.

See the Add Network guide for instructions.

What can I do on Inception?

  • Send and receive INCP tokens
  • Deploy and interact with smart contracts
  • Use decentralized applications (dApps)
  • Participate in DeFi (decentralized finance)
  • Run a validator and earn rewards
  • Vote on governance proposals

Token Questions

What is INCP?

INCP is Inception's native cryptocurrency. It's used for:

  • Paying transaction fees (gas)
  • Staking as a validator (requires 32 INCP)
  • Participating in governance
  • Securing the network

How do I get INCP?

See the Get INCP guide for details. Options include:

  • Centralized exchanges (when listed — check status)
  • Decentralized exchanges (when available)
  • Bridge from other chains (coming soon)

What is the total supply of INCP?

The maximum supply is 50 billion INCP (50,000,000,000), minted at genesis. No additional tokens can be created. Base fees are burned, creating deflationary pressure over time.

Will more INCP be created?

No. The supply is capped at 50 billion INCP. This is hardcoded in the protocol and cannot be changed.

Can INCP be burned?

Yes! With EIP-1559, every transaction burns the "base fee" portion of gas, permanently removing INCP from circulation. This creates scarcity as network usage increases.

Validator Questions

What is a validator?

Validators are network participants who:

  • Propose new blocks
  • Attest to the validity of blocks
  • Secure the network through staking
  • Earn rewards for honest participation

How much INCP do I need to be a validator?

Exactly 32 INCP is required to run a validator. This is deposited into the staking contract and locked while you're validating.

What are the hardware requirements?

Minimum:

  • 4-core CPU
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 500 GB SSD
  • 10 Mbps internet

Recommended:

  • 8-core CPU
  • 32 GB RAM
  • 1 TB NVMe SSD
  • 25+ Mbps internet
  • 99%+ uptime

See Validator Overview for complete requirements.

Can I lose my INCP as a validator?

Yes, in two ways:

  1. Inactivity penalties: Small penalties for being offline. These can be recovered by getting back online.
  2. Slashing: Severe penalties for malicious behavior (double signing, contradictory votes). Can result in losing your entire 32 INCP stake.

Run your validator properly and you won't be slashed.

Do I need technical knowledge to run a validator?

Yes. You should be comfortable with:

  • Linux command line
  • Server management
  • Basic networking
  • Security best practices

If you're not technical, consider using a staking service or staking pool instead.

How much can I earn as a validator?

Estimated returns vary from 3-12% APY depending on:

  • Total network stake (more stake = lower individual returns)
  • Your validator uptime and performance
  • Network transaction volume (more transactions = more fees)

These are estimates, not guarantees. Returns vary based on network conditions.

Security Questions

Is Inception secure?

Inception uses the same battle-tested consensus mechanism (Gasper FFG) as Ethereum. Security is proportional to the total staked value. All core contracts undergo professional security audits.

What if I lose my seed phrase?

Your seed phrase (mnemonic) is the master key to your wallet. If you lose it, your funds are permanently inaccessible. Write it down and store it securely offline.

How do I avoid scams?

  • Never share your private keys or seed phrase
  • Always verify URLs before connecting wallets
  • Don't trust unsolicited DMs on Discord/Telegram
  • Only use official links from inceptionera.com
  • Double-check contract addresses on the Transparency page

Are my funds insured?

No. Blockchains are decentralized and uninsured. You are responsible for securing your funds. Use hardware wallets for large amounts and follow security best practices.

Technical Questions

What is the Chain ID?

1805 (decimal) or 0x70D (hexadecimal). Use this when adding Inception to your wallet or configuring development tools.

Is Inception EVM-compatible?

Yes. Inception runs the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), meaning any Ethereum smart contract can be deployed on Inception with minimal or no changes.

What consensus mechanism does Inception use?

Proof-of-Stake (PoS) using Gasper FFG (Friendly Finality Gadget), the same consensus mechanism as Ethereum. Validators stake 32 INCP to participate.

What programming languages can I use?

Smart contracts are written in:

  • Solidity (most common)
  • Vyper

Any language that compiles to EVM bytecode works on Inception.

How do I deploy a smart contract?

Use standard Ethereum development tools:

  • Hardhat
  • Foundry
  • Remix
  • Truffle

See the Developers guide for complete instructions.

Bridge Questions

Can I move assets between chains?

Yes, once the Inception Bridge launches. The bridge will support:

  • Ethereum ↔ Inception
  • Additional chains (to be announced)

Check the Bridge documentation for details.

How long does bridging take?

Typically 15-40 minutes, depending on:

  • Source chain finality requirements
  • Signer verification
  • Network congestion

Are there limits on bridging?

Yes. The bridge has:

  • Daily transfer caps per asset
  • Per-transaction limits
  • These limits are governed by INCP holders and adjustable

Check the Status page for current limits.

Governance Questions

How does governance work?

INCP holders can:

  • Vote on proposals (1 INCP = 1 vote)
  • Create proposals (requires 100,000 INCP)
  • Delegate voting power to others

Proposals go through discussion, voting, timelock, and execution phases.

See Governance for complete details.

What can governance control?

  • Protocol parameters (gas limits, fees, etc.)
  • Network upgrades
  • Treasury spending
  • Bridge operations
  • Emergency actions

Can I vote if my INCP is staked?

Yes. Staking and governance are separate. Your staked INCP retains full voting power.

Ecosystem Questions

Are there dApps on Inception?

The ecosystem is growing. As the network matures, expect:

  • DeFi protocols (DEXs, lending, etc.)
  • NFT marketplaces
  • Gaming applications
  • DAOs and governance tools

How do I stay updated?

Where can I get help?

Beware of Scams
  • We never DM first on Discord/Telegram
  • We never ask for private keys or seed phrases
  • Always verify URLs before connecting wallets
  • Bookmark official sites to avoid phishing
